Year R

EARLY YEARS CURRICULUM

The children in Year R follow the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum where the children are assessed through the observation of their play and directed tasks. The learning environment which includes the classroom and outside areas, is used to develop the whole child, their skills and knowledge. The planning and assessment support children’s learning in the 7 areas of:-

  • Communication and Language
  • Personal, Social and Emotional Development
  • Physical Development
  • Literacy
  • Mathematics
  • Understanding the World
  • Expressive Arts and Design

Within the first six weeks of starting in Year R  the children will complete the Reception Baseline Assessment (RBA). Parents and carers will receive information regarding this when their child starts school.

Children's progress at the end of their time in Year R will be measured against a set of early learning goals (ELGs). At this time teachers will indicate whether a child has met the expected level of development, or if they are not yet reaching expected levels. This information will be shared with parents and carers.
