InformationSituated on a large attractive site in the middle of the village of Oakley, the present Infant School was built in 1972. All children living in the villages of Oakley, Wootton St Lawrence and Malshanger are in the School's designated catchment area.
Accommodation consists of nine classrooms, of which eight are currently used as teaching bases and one as a central library. A new Group Room that was partially funded by a donation of £9000 from the "Friends of Oakley Infants" has been added as a learning support resource base. The administration area is off the spacious reception area which leads into the large hall used for PE, dance, drama, music, assemblies, midday meals and meetings. The buildings surround an attractive courtyard with raised gardens. A well established pond and environmental area are surrounded by a traditionally laid hedge. Neither the staff nor children could wish for a more pleasant working environment. OrganisationThe school is organised in the traditional pattern of year groups. From September 2000, the Government’s class size initiative became a statutory requirement, therefore no child will be in a class of more than thirty children. Because of the uneven numbers of children in each year group, some mixed age classes are inevitable. After spending a year in each class, children normally move on to Oakley C.E. Junior School , next door. |
